This farm is the only thing he knew
Passed from his dad and his dad before him too
His class was this barn and all these fields
How high’s the corn and what will be the yields
Now strangers gather and pick through their things
Not understanding that they’re bidding on their dreams

A lifetime laid out in the early autumn light
A thousand dreams, a thousand tears and sleepless nights
And no one seems to know they’re gone
Only that The Auction has begun
He rode on the tractor and stacked the hay
The sun warmed his face working fifteen hour days
Then dad fell ill and he took the wheel
It was up to him and God to make the family’s meal
Dad passed away and left the boy to tend the land
With roots so deep the boy had grown into a man
